It’s black flame over white fire.

That’s one way that the Jewish tradition describes the words of the Torah, the foundational text from which millennia of conversation were ignited, fueled by the curiosity, challenges, desire, and art of the rolling tides of generations.

While classical music has a shorter history, it likewise was born from the pit-of-the-stomach call to transcendence that humanity clings to. It, too, is grounded in gazing at black flames dancing over the white fire of a silent page, seeking the meaning of song.

Interpretive Traditions is one thinker’s place for her own combined consideration, experimentation, and interpretation, mixing the offerings of each tradition in pursuit of something that burns true.
